  • A copy of your VAT registration

  • Your latest company accounts or tax return

  • Your most recent HMRC self-assessment tax return

  • Self-assessment registration including your Unique Taxpayer Reference (UTR)

  • A business or employment contract

Financial and utility documents

  • A bank statement dated within the last six months (not a Mettle statement)

  • A utility bill in your trading name dated within the last six months

  • An invoice for work completed in the last six months

Professional and online proof

  • Membership evidence from a regulatory or professional body, or trade association

  • Information on your website or social media account

  • An in-date public liability or indemnity insurance policy

Note: If you can’t send these items now, you can skip this step.

Important: You must send your proof of trading within six months of opening your account. If you don't send this within six months, we'll get in touch to talk about what happens next.
