If you choose to switch to a new Mettle bank account

What we'll do:

  • Close your e-money account

  • Give you a new account number and sort code

  • Move your money to your new Mettle bank account

  • Email you a final statement as a PDF at the point of upgrade

  • We’ll email your standing orders and Direct Debit information, with instructions on how you can set them up again

  • Send you a new debit card

  • Transfer over your current payees to your new account

  • Any connection you currently have with FreeAgent will remain connected in your new account.

What you'll need to do:

  • You need to be on the latest version of our app to switch. Head to the Google Play Store or Apple App Store to see if your app needs updating

  • Give your contacts your new bank details

  • Set up any regular payments again with your new bank account and debit card details

  • Recreate any pots you’ve set up

  • Issue new invoices that contain your new bank account details. Old invoices won’t be transferred to your new account

  • Reconnect to your accounting software such as Quickbooks and Xero

  • Download your transaction history and statements before you switch, in case you need them after your e-money account has been closed

Once the switch begins, your app will be locked. This usually takes less than a couple of minutes, but can take up to two hours. If you need to make any payments during this time you’ll need to use an alternative bank account.

If you’re sent a payment to your e-money account while we’re switching you over to your new Mettle bank account the payment will automatically be sent to your new account.

Any funds paid to your closed e-money account details after the switch will automatically return to the sender.

If you choose not to switch to a new Mettle bank account

What you'll need to do before the account closure date:

  • Transfer your remaining balance to an alternative bank account

  • Set up any regular payments again with alternative bank account and debit card details

  • Download your transaction history, invoices and statements before your account closure date, in case you need them after your e-money account has been closed

  • If you want to keep access to FreeAgent, you’ll need to subscribe on their website

What we'll do on the account closure date:

  • Close your e-money account

  • Email you a final statement as a PDF at the point of closure
