What are Variable Recurring Payments (VRPs) and sweeping?
Updated over a year ago

Variable Recurring Payments (VRPs) are a new payment method that allows third parties to initiate a series of payments at variable amounts and intervals on your behalf.

Currently, Mettle only supports sweeping payments. Sweeping payments are one type of VRP which allow you to move money between two accounts belonging to the same person or legal entity. The benefit of this over other payment types is that you can set up specific rules for the payments which provide you with more flexibility and control.

For example, you could set up a sweeping payment that moves excess funds from your Mettle account into a savings account each month when your balance goes over £1000.

You can set up a sweeping payment via a third party provider (TPP).
