You might get charged for a cancelled Direct Debit due to an error or if you cancelled it too close to the payment date. Contact the merchant to get a refund or see if they can raise a Direct Debit indemnity claim for you.

To avoid being charged, make sure you cancel Direct Debits in enough time. This should be at least one full working day before the payment is due.
